With the change in Logo for Four's Company, we have also had a change in our performance attire. Gone are our logo t-shirts and in its place we have been getting more glamorous and wearing Ties and Jackets for the Men and Black outfits with gorgeous necklaces that our Style team have colour co-ordinated with the Men's ties for the Women. We were very lucky to have the fantastic Paula Sugden join us for one of the Not Just Jazz concerts on her Cello. Paula is very well known in music circles here in the Bay and we were delighted that she agreed to join us as one of our special guest artists. Paula has been playing the Cello since she was 11 years old and was taught by Alison Hanson. After 4 years study at Victoria University, Paula Achieved a Bachelor of Music in Performance Cello - with Honours! Paula often plays as the guest lead cellist for the Hawke's Bay Orchestra and other small ensembles as well as juggling 2 children, a busy home life and career. Paula was accompanied by Linda Gilchrist on piano for her performance. Two Carols by the very well-known English composer, John Rutter and another 3 that are equally beautiful! I can't wait to get to rehearsal tonight and start learning....it's what we love to do! Linda Gilchrist ( Four's Company Director) We were lucky enough to have Clarinetist Joshua White play as a guest artist at two of the Not Just Jazz concerts. 16 year old Josh began playing the Clarinet just 6 years ago. He started learning from a teacher at Taupo Nuia Tia College then, while he was coming backward and forward to the Hawkes Bay to gain experience from the excellent bands over here, he met local teacher Julia Redfern, who is now is full time teacher. Joshua is also a pupil at Lindisfarne College and is working towards his A.T.C.L. Exam on the clarinet (in a few weeks). He also dabbles with playing the Bagpipes, Alto Saxaphone, Oboe and Piano! Joshua was accompanied by Margaret Cooper for his performances. Hayden and Darcy Snell stunned us and audiences with their skills on the Piano. These talented 14 year old twins have been playing the piano since they were 7 years old with local piano teacher, Jan Beck. Both boys are past winners of the Annual Institute of Registered Music Teachers Society Scholarship and have also taken out top prizes in various categories of the local Competitions Society over several years. Most recently they were invited to perform as guest artists at the 2012 Aria Competition hosted by the Napier Performing Arts Competitions' Society. Both boys attend Lindisfarne College and will be sitting their Grade 6 Piano exams very soon. Hopefully they will be able to join us for more concerts in the future Lisa Eagle ( Four's Company Member) The final Not Just Jazz concert was amazing last night. Butterflies are starting in the stomach and I am frantically trying to make sure I've remembered all the words and Moves. The Not Just Jazz concerts have really been a different experience to perform as for the first time one of our Four's Company Directors, Jillian Andrew has challenged us to add some Choreography to some of our songs. Trying to maintain four part harmony as well as moving has be interesting for some of us to attempt, but has been really satisfying to see us come together as a group that can sing and move at the same time. Talk about multi-tasking. Don't forget the show starts early at 5.30pm tonight. Hope to see you there. Lisa Eagle (Four's Company member) Thank you to Linda Gilchrist (Four's Company Director) and also Vicki Hannay, who is a fantastic member of the Four's Company Performance Choir. They are the amazing designers of our new Four's Company Logo. The logo is now taking pride of place around our website fourscompanymusic.com Lisa Eagle (Four's Company Member) We had our final rehearsal last night for the last performance of our Not Just Jazz Variety concert. The first two performances at St Lukes Church, Havelock North, and St Matthews Church, Hastings, have been met with a fantastic reception from the audiences. We are very excited to perform our last concert on Saturday 22nd September at St Columba's Church on Gloucester St in Taradale. The concerts showcase many well-loved jazz standards; heart-felt gospel and spirituals; Broadway and classical. Music for all ages, from Irving Berlin to Queen, the Beatles, Stephen Schwarz, Schumann and many more. Featuring Four's Company Performance Choir with Special Guests Hayden and Darcy Snell on Piano, Joshua White on Clarinet and for last week only we had Paula Sugden on Cello. Our St Columba's concert starts at 5.30pm, and tickets are $15 Adult and $10 Senior or Child which can be purchased at the church office or on the night. We also have some great raffles to help us fund raise for future concerts and music. Look forward to seeing you there.
